One thing that works great for cleaning copper, brass, and silver is a solution of betaine. This is used commercially as a noncorrosive soldering flux, BTW.

Buy some betaine hydrochloride tablets (nutritional supplement) at a health food store or pharmacy. Crush them to a powder, and add water (say, 3 or so tablets per tablespoon). Place your pennies in the solution and give 'em a stir every once in a while, or apply to brass or silver objects with a cloth or sponge.

You'll be surprised how quickly the tarnish disappears. Another great thing about this solution is that the ingredients are harmless and it doesn't actually eat into the metal like a strong acid would. Finally, there are no abrasives involved to scratch the surface.

Rinse well with water when you're done, and dry carefully. A layer of furniture paste wax (Johnson's, etc.) will help delay future tarnishing.

in the event that they are silver, a stable thank you to bathe them could be by using using acetone. Its very flammable nonetheless, you may could be very careful. i are conscious of it is not any longer stable to bathe funds, yet conservation isn't comparable to cleansing, and acetone will do away with airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dirt and contaminants devoid of hurting the coin. in the event that they are efficient then cleansing would be undesirable, yet while only pocket substitute without genuine numismatic fee, then it does not harm to apply lemon juice or ketchup on it. do no longer try this with uncommon or efficient funds nonetheless.
