Sometimes you may need to sand and "spot mud" where it may be slightly imperfect. Sanding is very important when it comes to drywall....don't take too much out or your waisting your time. The best thing you can do is use your hand and rub it on the mudded joints to feel for any lumps or bumps or dips and dives. If you feel any...someimes sanding more is BAD...instead "spot mud" a thin coat over it and spread it out further. Sometimes when it seems questionable and my brain loses its ability to judge it...I use a flashlight and shine it up or across the wall to see and dips...it seems silly but it makes the job alot easier. And I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to those things.

GOOD LUCK and HAPPY HOLIDAY

What kinda of mud are you using too makes a difference...do not use the powder kind if your an amateur...it can be very dificult to work with. The blue lid mud is best for final coats and spot mudding...the green lid will work...but sands hard and doesn't smooth as evenly with a knife.

After you sand, place a lamp in front of the area and look at it from the side. You will be able to see any high or low spots.

Put enough joint compound on to hide the seams where the tape is. When you sand it flush, or feather it, and can no longer see the seams, you can paint.
