Receive a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from an accredited university. I did an internship with the Department of Children and Families in Florida. Make contacts within the community at hospitals, clinics, food banks and shelters. Use those contacts on your resume. Then use those contacts in your job. I started out making $25K a year, but that was in the 1980's. Hospitals generally pay more than a state agency.

Social workers have a BSW degree and many have an MSW (masters in social work) There is a demand for them and some have a private practice or work in a social services agency. I work in the SW dept of a private college and have heard that some grads have started out anywhere from 30K-40K.

you need to have a degree in social work. however there are some institutions that allow non-degree holders to become registered social workers as long as they pass the exam or their experience is apt for the said work. actually, a social worker does not earn much like engineers, psychologists, managers..etc, but a social worker is one who makes an indelible mark in the lives of many people. their work clings to the soul rather than to the mind..^_^
