I am really really trying to tell myself that is how it should be, but when someone gives you a big ol bag of Jack Daniels gourmet coffee for an early christmas present and then forgets to give you the JD to add to it the "thoughtfulness" of the gift seems kinda like a tease

It's not the thought that counts...it's the effort.

I could give you a key to the car...but if I didn't make the effort to GIVE you the car then it was all worthless.

"The thought that counts" is just BS that people say to be nice when they know a crappy gift is involved... at least that's how I see it.
I think in this case a lot of people just feel bad giving out liquor as a Christmas present because its a religious holiday or something. But that's there loss, I had the whole family doing tequila shots Christmas morning last year lol
So go on out and buy yourself a bottle of Jack

Oh heck yea...that definitely sounds like a tease gift! Now you have to buy the expensive part...the Jack Daniels! I'm thinking that I would have been real disappointed!

:-)

They though enough to give you a gift, but they weren't thinking too seriously about you. Or, some people don't have a clue about gift giving and putting thought into it. Sounds like something I would "re-gift" in an anonymous way

it really is the thought that counts...in most cases
now in your case...getting jack daniels coffee without a bottle of jd to go with it is kinda 'jacked'

but maybe they didn't have enough money to buy you a bottle

Nope.

If the thought was what counted, we'd all sleep in on Christmas morning and wake up around noon, gather around the tree and say "Just thinkin' about you!"

Yes, I always think so. On my birthday, I am happy with just a hand made card from my nieces. One is 3 and the other is 11.

I never look a gift horse...ect. I'd just buy my own "sweetner" for the coffee then I get the kind I like!
