Ummm, no. If billions of frogs eat flies for breakfast, should we adopt their diet? That's another example of "non sequitur".

as far as i know the earth is about 5 billion years old
life on earth is about 3.5 billion years into it's existence
mankind is a mere several million years old

this seems like an angled question open to devolving into a c*******ism debate given it's inclusion in the philosphy section....

In a matter of speaking, "yes". The hydrogen and helium was created at the time of the "big bang". Super nova's created the larger atoms: carbon, oxygen, etc.. The atoms that make you up are the stuff of stars.

However, even though you are composed of atoms of great age, that is not how we normally determine our age. Our "age" is determined by the moment others are aware of our consciousness. The atoms that we were composed of at our birth have all gone. Our consciousness remains, and that consciousness is what we consider as our age.

If you believe that humans are made from elements of this planet(water, carbon, etc), then yes, everything is as old as when it first began because the system is made of elements of itself, recycled. They are just transformed into other elements as they are needed.
