their excuse for not taking the lie detector test (even though they said they would) was that it isn't 100% accurate, but in your opinion, why wouldn't they want to assist the PJ by answering the standard 40 questions?

well purple, maybe they are just too far into the lie now to turn back. that would sense!! and not a shred of evidence? there MUST be SOME reason for them being made suspects. I don't think police are allowed to just randomly pick people without reason.

they do have something to hide and there stories have been repeatedly inconsistent, as well as stories of their friends, IF you watched the 48 hours you would also know that the staff at the outdoor cafe said they got drunk on 7-14 bottles of wine every night and rarely checked the kids....

also its been suggested that they were all swingers and this is not uncommon in middle aged couples...and that was the agenda to be there without the kids.....to get all loose and sexual.....

WHEN you start a web of deceit the only way to continue is with the lies....as for the DNA evidence it is having to go through the most sophisticated testing which can take a very long time...EVEN IF they DID not KILL MADELINE>>>>they LEFT HER alone TO GET abducted....she is dead already I am sure...and with all the water around she is most likely in water and well eaten by fish already....when they moved her body I am sure they took her to the ocean....OR her abductor put her there....I doubt her remains will ever be covered...atleast they can tell the twins how she was "abducted" while they partied into the wee hours with friends at a resort in Portugal.....

Yeah this was a little puzzling to me a while back, and all the 'Pro's' were saying that because there is a likelihood of it being wrong, they could be wrongly accused and therefore they didn't want to take that risk. Which doesn't hold weight in my mind. Because from what I've heard the likelihood is minimal, but that's just me.

I couldn't care less now anyway. It doesn't look like the facts will ever come out, so no point in accusing anyone of anything without sufficient backup. Guessing games are for the blind and they always make you stumble.

part of me thinks they should just answer the questions, but on the other hand, what are these questions and what is it going to prove?

We don't appear to have a normal procedure here in the UK to answer 40 questions when a crime is commited so I don't really see the point. But I don't see the point in not answering them either.

Fear of incriminating themselves and nothing else, obviously anyone open, above board and desperately seeking their daughter would do all they could to assist the police. Who in their right mind really believes the police are trying to frame them,no wonder there has been such a lot of xenophobia in the pro MacCann media, that;s right, whip em up against the wicked Portuguese police and in the process make lots and lots of lovely money !

If it were me and I had spent almost 2 full days of being questioned being coerced and being brow beaten to confess to a crime that I didn't commit, I would probably be acting the same way. What questions could there be that the PJ didn't ask them in those 2 full days? I'm sorry but I'm afraid I would just dig my heels in the same as the McCann's and listen to my lawyers. Since lie detector tests are not allowable in many countries in court as they aren't 100% accurate, then why would I bother taking one? I would be listening to my attorneys advice at every turn and I'm sure that it's on their lawyers advice that they not take the test.

Hey grumps

I think it's because they are already under such a cloud of suspicion, that if they fail parts of it, it will just add fuel to the fire. I personally would take it, but the way things have went for them, I probably wouldn't. I'm sure they are going under the advice of their lawyer. Lie detector tests I think are something like 90% accurate - not sure on the number, but there is a chance of it being inaccurate., and if they happen to be in that 10%, it would be devastating for them. The lynch mobs would really be out bigtime.

I would be their lawyers have told them ABSOLUTELY NO, but who knows. As far as the 40 questions, wasn't the lawyer telling them not to answer those questions? Or is the 40 questions something they want to ask on the lie detector test?

They were advised by their Portugese lawyer which questions to answer and which not to,it was on all the news at the time.

Thats what lawyers are for,the poor couple can't even answer all the nasty stuff written about them because they aren't allowed to,yet the police tell the media in Portugal tons of lies about them to discredit them further, its a travesty of justice !

Poor parents...victims of the hate mob.

They should televise it with Chris Tarrant asking the questions. May as well go the whole way to the media circus?
