I have never heard of anyone doing a 3 day diet prior to the test - this would not give actual, true results based on how your normal eating habits, which is the whole point of the test!

I'd ask your doctor about that when you see them.

As for the test, don't worry. Many women test high on the 1 hour but do just fine and test normal on the 3 hour.

If you do fail the 3 hour and are given the diagnosis of "gestational diabetes" you will probably be able to manage your blood sugar with some simple diet changes like limiting carbs and timing your carb intake throughout the day, eating more protein, etc. It's not common for women to need insulin, but it could happen.

Ask lots of questions!

Good luck!

This doesn't sound like the standard procedure for the glucose test. Perhaps what your doctor meant was that you would follow a special diet or fast right before the 3-hour test. Usually this involves no food past midnight the day before until after the test is completed.

I tested high with two of my pregnancies on the 1-hour test, but the 3-hour was ok / negative, so don't worry. This is very common.

Be sure to bring some snacks that you can scarf down right after they draw your blood because you will be starving, and quite possibly feel a little faint or weak.

In agreeance with the first answer!! Never heard of it. Well, the doctor should have told you what the diet entails...id' call them back!!!!!! I would guess the diet would be to stay away from sugars. The test will be the same as the one hour test pritty much, just 3 hours this time and more sugary fluids! Good luck, mine have never come back high but it always worried me.
