We're doing a network on security in my computer class and I was wondering if DOS attacks are illegal in the US?

DOS (Denial of Service) Attacks are illegal everywhere as stated and can be accomplished in several different ways.

It is basically illegal to prevent access to the public domain without properly reporting it to the correct agencies. And that what a DoS attack does.
