A gal in northeast MN has had 2 (that I know about) fundraiser/benefit/garage sale saying the money will go to a woman who has been disabled since March, even using her name and having a donation jar. People have donated items for her to sell. The sick woman has not seen a penny of this money but her friends and former co-workers think she has. The gal having the sale said she had to pay for space (for the sale), signs to be printed and the newspaper ad and her time. Isn't this fraud?

No, it's not fraud. It's theft, specifically larceny under false pretenses, and should be discussed with the local prosecutor's intake bureau.

If between paying for the space, signs, and a newspaper ad she spent all the money that was made, then she is an idiot.

As far as being paid for her time - has she never heard the words 'donating your time'?

Some people should get together and beat every single penny out of her, and give it to the sick woman.

Not sure about fraud, but certainly unethical. Before I donated any more items for these "sales", I would want to see a breakdown of her expenses and how much she is getting paid for her time. Hopefully, the woman who is supposed to be the beneficiary of these sales is aware of them.

Yes that's fraud and I'd be pi*ssed! I'm not exactly too sure that you can do anything about it legally, you'd have to consult with someone who deals with this sort of thing. It's unfortunate but it could be just one of those things that falls through the cracks and they get away with it.

Report it to the police or the district attorney.
They should be able to determine if it is fraud.

Sounds to me like it.
