I was shocked it didn't pass (or rather that the votes weren't rigged this time). The press said the proposal lost 51% to 49% but Chavez has already stated he'd present it again next year and the year after that until it passes.

The feeling is that it's pretty much innevitable that the Constitution will be changed to allow him to "run" forever.

What people don't realize is that the U.S. has a big hand (interest) in elections around the world. Look what happened in the last Mexican election.
