I dont understand the ending of the old movie Sunset Boulevard. What are we supposed to think happens after the movie ends? Does Norma go to jail? I'm pretty confused about the ending and I have to do a paper on it. Anybody who has seen the movie and understands the ending, Please answer!

It's not spelled out but the cops are there and he's being fished out of the pool. Seems to me she's going to jail.

When Norma Desmond comes down the stair and says "All right, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up." lets you know she is insane. She is not going to jail she will be found innocent by reason of insanity and will be sent to a mental facility.
Great movie, I love it.

The movie is the sum of his last thoughts as he dies...she has murdered what most people will call her 'younger lover." She's either going to jail or the looney bin!

I would say she is going to the looney bin. She still believes she is a famous movie star.
