i tried google earth and could not get a current picture.

not going to happen.

I don't think the govt would allow it for security reasons.

also it would require a network that could process all this info of live images of earth. that network doesn't exist yet. Thats tons of info to process and becomes quit overwhelming.

best bet is http://www.flashearth.com
you get something like 5 different image databases to choose from , but some don't give close up pics.

google still seems like one of the best.
nasa offers semi live and updated cloud coverage in low res images.

Call up the NSA. They have one.

No, they have to be declassified, and are updated every few years. You won't be able to get a recent image anytime soon (unless you want to launch your own satellite).
