I found that when I quit it was best for me to slowy cut down from 10 a day to 9 the next and so on, so on. When you get down to one a day just stop and don't be around other people that smoke. Get some hard candy or gum to help with cravings. Go out and do something fun to keep yourself busy and keep your mind off of it. The first four days are the hardest after that it's smooth sailin'. Don't be discouraged if you slip up. Don't give up either. It's okay just try again. Once you do stop you'll wonder why you ever started.

I got unexpectedly pregnant. It's an EXTREMELY effective but also rather drastic measure to quit smoking. I haven't smoked in 14 months, but because I never actually made the decision on my own to quit for my own purposes, I still feel like a smoker trapped in a non-smoker's body. It's a bit weird.

There is a new oral medication out that people are raving about. I don't know the name of it but you have to have a prescription for it and I'm sure your doctor will know what I'm talking about.
Additionally, I would suggest that you go to a smoking cessation class. They will help you get over the psychological addiction that accompanies smoking. The nicotine is out of your body in three days--it's the mental part that's the hardest to get over.
I quit in 1991 and it's the best thing I ever did for myself. I smoked 3-5 packs a day for 17 years.
Good luck!

I quit 4 months ago after smoking for 16 years
Listen to the CD The Easy Way To Stop Smoking 2 or 3 times during the first week of taking CHANTIX follow instructions for the drug.
I am not a big fan of the drug industry, but this stuff works. I highly recommend you do the daily song and dance on-line it keeps your mind clear of temptation during the first couple months.
One more thing...YOGA is an aw some way to burn some of the stress one will encounter and reintroduce your body to exercise.

Hello There,
My wife smoked for over 10 years and when she found out that she was pregnant with our now newborn 3 months old daughter, she had promised me that if I found a good solution for quitting, she will try her best to kick the habit.
Well in my spare time I started researching online for quit smoking programs, meanwhile she was trying out patches and gums that you can buy at grocery stores and adventually they would not work for her.
After about a week of researching I had stumbled over a website that really impressed me on what they had to offer and that they actually say that they can almost guarantee your success, and most importantly that you can try it out for free.
The company has been around for over 20 years now and they have helped over a million smokers quit since and their kit has everything that you possibly need to help you quit smoking, I thought WoW that is impressive.
I went ahead and ordered the free trial for my wife (only paid for shipping) and she has quit smoking in just two weeks and she doesn't want to hear about or smell another cigarette again in her life :)
Now it is up to you, but since my wife has quit, I was so happy about her success, so much so that I had built a small review site of the product to also help other people quit, you can check it out at; http://endthehabitnow.com if you want to find out more.
P.S. Also available for Canada.
Thanks for reading my short story, I hope it helps, good luck and stay healthy.

I Was a smoker for 27 years.I started young ,that was my rebellion years. Then it took over my life. I recently quit this year, about 2.5 months ago.I tried chantax (you;ve seen it advertised on TV, or ask your Doctor) It really does work,I recommend it.It takes the edge off, the craving. It made me sleepy, but that was ok. You'll slip up (maybe) but if you continue to use it you'll find that it just doesnt give you the pick up that you want. Plus, your smokes will taste really nasty.REALLY. Your insurance may or maynot cover, it but the price is worth it. I didnt even finish quite my months supply, because I weened off from 2 to 1 aday.

This is one of the most common questions on the Alt med category. The best advice I can give is to stop cold turkey.
Why?
Because, the withdrawals are a 10 day minimum and only 3 days out of those ten are the hardest.
What to do?
Take a sabbatical away from smoking friends and acquaintances.
Inspiration?

Cold turkey.
Just stop.
My mom died of lung cancer, she smoked for 51 years. If that isn't enough, I don't know what is.
I quit smoking when I was 11 :)
