Marriage was a religious institution hundreds, nay, thousands of years before it was a legal institution. Some people still believe it is a religious institution, it is a vow and an oath made to someone before God. We have a certain text that has been around for upwards of 5000 years that says God does not make holy the relationships of same sex partners.
I understand this is not the "politically correct" way to view it, but again, God and his laws were around for thousands of years before your politics were.
Believe and act any way you want, but stop condemning people who still hold God's Law.

On your point of:
she states repeatedly, that couples that "play house" and do not get legally married are not entitled to the same rights and protections as couples that do legally marry. As a jurist, isn't she condoning prejudice here?
It is not the role of judges to make the law. Couples that are not married are NOT entitled to the same rights and protections. It doesn't matter if a judge doesn't like it.
A judge is supposed to be a referee enforcing the rules, not making them up with their own personal beliefs.

Judge Judy, while Im not a fan, has her head on straight, and makes sence, if ya, really pay attention then you will understand what she means, her beliefs are shared by millions of people, she is saying, shack up relationships shouldnt be reconized as a marriage, you shouldnt have the same rights, and I agree, let me break it down a bit for you, lets say, I move in with my boyfriend, we live together a mere 4 months, does that mean that I get all the same benifets that a married couple would? should I be entitled to spousal support, half of the family home, medical benefits, etc? heck no! Now you turn things around, and I marry the guy, then both partys are aware that when you marry its not only a comitment, its also like a business arangement, so this ensures me that half of the marital assets are mine. And playing house is going on way to much and needs to stop, most house players are under the age of 25 and are not responsible and have lack skills that are needed to handle a long term relationship, this is why they are shacking up! They are not ready for marriage, but yet they are going thru the motions of marriage, and 9 times out of 10 the relationship fails within a year. Now in regards to gay marriage, my personal opinion is that marriage is a union in which should only be between a man and a woman, and dont get me wrong, I have many gay friends, Im from San Francisco, so believe me, I,ve grown up and gone to high school with many gay friends who I love like my own brother or sister, and the friends I have who are gay know where I stand on this, in fact one of them actually agrees with me, but we must find some kind of union in which gay couples can have the same rights and benifets as married couples, but dont call it marriage!

For you and the rest who feels that gays should get married. Can put their mates in will and power of attorney, to make sure that their will and actions are carried out. You are waiting for the government to change something that will not change over night. The statement you made about Jews not getting married is not in the same category as gay marriage. You can't stop someone from getting married because of nationality. That is against the constitution and laws of this land. Same sex marriages are against the laws and until the laws change it will be.

I agree with her. Gay couples shouldnt be allowed to get married because marriage is for a man and a woman. Judge Judy has a right to her opinion just like everyone else does. Im sure their are other judges that has a different opinion and nobody says anything about that.

No she is not. Personally she does not wish gay marriage to be legalized. Business wise anyone who lives together for a certain period of time is a legal binding couple. Gay or not.....
She has the right to her beliefs as a judge, doctor and or mother. Even you have the right to believe what you want.

Judge Judy, a woman of suspense, as she
tells it the way it is, however I take a lot of
her opinions just as that, her opinions.

That would be why she is no longer on the bench and has been reduced to television.
It is so much easier to dispense "justice" while being free of the constraints of law.
