Well it could be a network address (Media Access Control ethernet address). Or the MAC address of devices within a computer. Or it could be short for a Macintosh computer that is made by Apple.
All of the components/devices of a computer have MAC addresses assigned to them
1. MAC= Media Access Control
2. MAC= Macintosh Computer made by Apple

Mac is short for macintosh. a computer built by Apple Corporation. Its a realiable, high end machine. it runs on Apple's proprietary Mac OS. An operating system system that uses the linux kernel therefore it is free from security issues & virus attacks. the latest Mac models use intel processor so if you want, you can switch to windows but most mac users never do. the older versions use the motorola G4 processor so only a mac os can be installed.

The best, most stable, secure, and user friendly computer system on the market.
I switched to a Mac 7 years ago and in 7 years my PowerMac G4 has never had one single virus, no system crashes, and no spyware/malware, and haven't needed any extraneous applications constantly running in the background to keep me protected from any of these. Mac's operating system is OSX, which is written on top of Unix which is the same system that runs all servers for the government and military or any corporation/organization that has a lot of data that needs to stay online and protected 24/7.
There's a bit of a learning curve when getting started with a Mac, but it doesn't take long to overcome because OSX is the most user friendly and intuitive system on the market.
They are more money, but the extra money prevents you from a lot of headaches from random PC problems that pop up ALL the time. Also, in the life of my PowerMac G4, I would have normally bought and replaced a PC at least 3 times... that's 3 trips to a store, 3 full setups, and a lot of time/money wasted. Since I switched 7 years ago, I haven't had a single issue with my Mac.
An uncle of mine works for one of the biggest PC makers in the world and recently ditched all of his home PCs which were from his employer and replaced them all with Macs. Then replaced the computers at his daughter's and her husband's house with Macs so he would not have to miss out on any more family time by having to spend all of his time fixing PCs. Doesn't say much when someone whose salary is made from the sale of PCs doesn't trust them enough to have them in his own house, or the house of his family.
Also, Apple is a hardware company, first and foremost. There are hundreds of other computer makers out there for you to choose from, but Apple makes their system far more superior to encourage the purchase of their computers. They've always been about the user experience and they want it to be a good one. Also, their primary goal with their products, is to create a work of art. PCs primary goal is to rush a product to market and fix it later.

Well, when used with all caps, it is commonly an acronym for Media Access Control address. Otherwise, it is typically an abbreviation for Macintosh computers. For some, it is a synonym for evil.
