The victorious allies attempted to restore the old order of 1789, and though they were successful initially, the forces of nationalism and liberalism were soon to increasingly influence European and World history. The USA more than doubled its land area due to the Louisiana Purchase, many central and South American states were able to shake off foreign domination, as European states were focussed upon their own problems. Italian and German nationalism grew. Prussian, Austrian and Russian imperial conservatism and repression continued. Weights, measures were standardised with the metric system. France lost more men than in the Great War (1914-1918). Changes in the political social fields, groth of working class movements. Increased frequency and success of revolution.

France fell into economic disarray because of the money spent on the wars. France also a large portion of the men who fought in these battles because Napoleon would place taller men in the front ranks. The other countries became closer in diplomatic relations because they had to banned together to fight Napoleon.
