Even if it's just a dream, it's still the only reality I've ever experienced.

When we sleep, our brain activity registers much lower than when we are awake. Our brains sort of "shut-down" certain areas of our body's activities that are considered to be voluntary responses (like movement of muscles that we purposely control when awake). Only the involuntary responses such as breathing and heart rate/beat are still maintained steadily without interruption while sleeping. Although these involuntary responses DO slow down (heart rate drops, body temperature drops and breathing shallows when we sleep) as a means to allow the body a period of "full rest." The neurotransmitting signals our body's send and receive while sleeping are also slowed down while the body is at rest.
Memory occupies an enormous part of our brains and sometimes what we see, doesn't always get dealt with in the awake state. Dreams come from a huge data base in our brains where images have been stored away to be used later in REM sleep ( a very deep sleep everyone experiences). Dreams can be very real and because they are comprised of imagery that we see while we're awake, we tend to believe our dreams to be "true" even though at times we know that they are not.

That's a very good question. As in the words of mathematician and philosopher Rene Descartes, "Je pense, donc je suis." I think therefore I am. Merely thinking about reality and what constitutes it shows that you are a real conscious being. I don't have an answer but do know that I feel the same. If the real answer is out there, I hope that Tom Cruise's "silly club" isn't right.

Interesting question! Which one is real.
We have talked about this one? Maybe our universe is just a drop of water in someone else's universe? Quite mind boggling isn't it when you start to wonder about things.
For me if I can touch it, eat it, taste it it's real. Dreams for me are very different. They are fragmented and I always wake up in the same bed. Darn it!
If the same people are there everyday and there is a regularity to my life that makes it real it is real.
Now back to the theory about the drop of water...LOL
liked your question though J

Unfortunately, we will never know. It's kinda like the saying, "Who sets the standard for norm?", only we have no electrical impulses to depict how mentally messed up we are as adults, just genetics and childhood. And as far as reality goes, we create are own...we see what we want, when we want, and how we want. God was awesome for giving us free will, huh? Oh, and whats the blue pill? LOL!

I know. I've heard all this before, years before. And the only thing I can say is how do you know it is a dream? But you know, the Hindus say that this is the veil of illusion. So maybe nothing is real except our minds which have the ability to not only perceive, but to misperceive as well

Actually, interestingly enough, I read a while ago, in the NY Times that there's a 20% chance that we're all just a virtual reality simulation.

As an Indian and Hindu, I believe that parts of this world, happenings and even people could be part of larger illusion in whic we lead our lives. Till we realise our true identtity and purpose in life and lose all fear of death or physical pain. One can reach this stage of `supermind' or `superconscious' even while leading everyday lives.
