If you could only pick one team which would it be and of what year? Why?
With all this talk about the Pats as the best team ever I just want to hear everyones opinion on who they think should wear this label. I am a Pats fan and yes they are amazing this year but its not over yet so I do feel they can't have that label just yet.

Right now I would say the 85 bears, total domination on both sides of the ball...........When Pats win superbowl this year, then they will own that Label

Yeah, a lot of Philly sports fans are more of the closet variety who come out when the team they support is doing well. I know that my perspective is skewed by the fact that I have lived near Philly for 42 out of 48 years, but I think that the long losing history of our sports teams breeds a more devout following than winning could ever do. Taking the Yankees, Celtics, Canadiens, and Patriots for example, I have to wonder how many fans would still support them if say each of the teams had a history of losing as the Phillies or Cubs. How many new fans have the Red Sox gained since they won their first World Series in over 80 years? That's not to suggest that Philly is immune to such fans. Even on Friday morning - when I was on my way to an appointment - I saw several people sporting the Phillies colors and thought to myself that this is the most Phillies gear I've seen since I was at a store that carries sports gear. I know that's the way it will be when any team in any city is pushing for a title. Many folks here know I'm a fan of the baseball team that left Philly 6 years before I was born - the Athletics. Despite that, despite how I feel about the ownership of the Phillies, their nickname, losing history (the A's weren't much better while prior to 1954), or their minor league ballpark, I am still hopeful that a Philadelphia team can add another championship title to our history. The long-suffering, much-maligned fans of our city deserve that and more for supporting some real stinking losers for so long. But that in no way means you'll see me in Phillies gear if they should reach and win the World Series. I think the top 6 cities by population are New York - Los Angeles - Chicago - Houston - Phoenix - Philadelphia. But nonetheless, I think Philadelphia sports fans are the most knowledgeable and devoted in the sports world. And no matter what reputation is manufactured by the sports entertainment media, to be the best while suffering and supporting for as long as they have is often so overlooked by fans who believe what they want to hear.

To be labeled the best ever I think the team must first win the Super Bowl, you can't be the best if another team wins the big one. Second, I would probably look at number of wins, or dominance of it's opponents. I am no Dolphins fan, but until another team goes undefeated and wins the Super Bowl, it's tough to argue against the '72 Dolphins. If New England does it this season, they would get my vote. As far as not being a dynasty,a super bowl win this season would be the teams 4th this decade, just as many as the 70's Steelers, and the 80's 49ers dynasty's.

Definitely the 49ers of the '80s...Bill Walsh, Joe Montana, and Jerry Rice revolutionized football, not to mention DOMINATED it, with the West Coast Offense...

Like you, I am an all out Pats fan, originally from Boston...but the Pats have 3 Super Bowls...It might happen, but not yet...The 49ers had 4 Super Bowls in the '80s...and a 5th with Steve Young in '95...

The Pats must wait til this years over for the best ever.

Until then I'll pick the 1976 Steelers the had the best defense (the changed the rules of the game cause of them) They also had a geat offense.

The best team ever as much as I hate to say it was the 1972 Dolphins who went undefeated during the entire season 17-0.
now i know the season was only 14 games long then but hey no one ever has gone undefeated in a season except them dolphins so until the Patriots go 19-0 this season the dolphins are the best team ever from 1972. and yes the Patriots will go undefeated this season.

The Steelers of the 70's. That was the first and TRUE football dynasty. The Pats aren't there quite yet.
