You'd need to find details about your motherboard.

I suspect you have 512MB ram, and onboard video which is using 32MB of your ram.

It might be worth opening your case and removing a ram stick to see if it says anything on the label.

If you have any documentation or receipts of your computer order when you bought it it should have the type of ram on it there. If not, you could get drastic and just open up your computer and see for yourself. lol

You wanna find out if it is DDR1 or DDR2 or RDRAM etc etc and also the MHz as well as the MB.

Could find out the model number then type that into google or ask the ram company the question providing them with a model number (can be found on the ram plates)

You have not stated why you want to add more RAM.

In my experience people often confuse hard disk space and RAM.

If it is RAM you are referring to, another misconception is regarding ths right amount required. Adding more RAM when your PC is not using what you have is pointless it will not use it.

Use the Task Manager to compare the amoun you have with the maount your PC is using.

Go to http://belarc.com and download their free Advisor program. It will give you a printout with all the info you will need to purchase additional memory. Also will give you about anything else you would never need to know about the hardware and software installed on your PC.

Excellent program...and free!! (And unlike critical.com, they will not try to sell yoy the memory when you run the program.)

hi meh
theres a saying in the computer world"you have never got enough memory"and its so true
your p.c is very similar to one i am repairing at the moment, its a athlon xp 2600+,512mb ddr ram and a 160gb hard drive
i have upgraded the memory to 768mb and also upgraded the graphics(onboard) to a dedicated ati radeon 9250(128mb)
this means the memory that was being used by the onboard graphics is now back with the system memory, thats the main reason for adding the graphics card
personally i would recommend you upgrade your memory with a 512mb ddr module giving you nearly 1gb of memory
however as your graphics is borrowing 32mb from the system memory(leaving you with 480mb) i would recommend you buy a budget graphics card aswell, basically just to give your system memory back,as when you add a graphics card with its own memory the onboard memory will cease to work and hand back the 32mb
for the memory(ram)go to http://www.crucial.com/,and run the online memory utility, this will inform you on what memory you need for your p.c and as it scans your p.c the information is precise and correct
however from your p.c,s specifications you supplied i have a good idea of what memory and graphics you need, and here is my recommendation which comes to less than £50
memory........AriaNet 1GB PC3200(http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Memory/DDR/DDR400+%28PC3200%29/AriaNet+1GB+PC3200+?productId=25701),a inexpensive 1gb module and will increase your total memory to 1.5gb,this is more than enough for running xp and great when multi-tasking
graphics.....nVidia GeForce FX5500 256MB AGP(http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/AGP/nVIDIA+GeForce+FX+Series/+nVidia+GeForce+FX5500+256MB+AGP?productId=15625),a excellent entry level graphics card and with 256mb of video memory this will fit perfect with your current p.c,s configuration
also consider ..ATi Radeon 9550 256MB DDR AGP (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/AGP/Radeon+9550+Series/ATi+Radeon+9550+256MB+DDR+AGP?productId=14776),another good graphics card with 256mb of memory, great all round card for gaming and video editing ect
the most these two upgrades will cost is £50 which i think is a excellent investment to improve the performance of your p.c
any more advice let me know
good luck meh !
