If the house has large trees or hedges on property then the only way to really tell is by going to the house at different times during the day and checking out where the sun light falls at certain times.
If there aren't any large trees then you're pretty much assured that the south side will receive a large amount of full sun whereas the east and west will receive a moderate amount of sun and the north very little. My house faces east and my garden is on the south. We get a full days sun in the south and a good portion of the day on the east from sun rise to late afternoon and then late afternoon to evening in the west.
Good Luck

Just check out which way the house is facing and where the hedges, trees etc are placed. Sun rising in the East and setting in the West.
Our garden rear faces West so we get the sun most of the afternoon and evening with the morning sun in the front. South facing gardens are best for all day sun.

The sun rises in the east and sets in the west so it shouldn't be too difficult to work out how much sun it gets.

I do remember reading about a Gizmo which you align with a compass and it will show you where the sun rises & sets every day and how high it goes. Anyone know where you can get one?

Take a compass with you and find out if it is south facing, mine is and its great because the sun (if we ever see it again) is always on the garden!
