ok so I was watching the news [we had a delay so I had time after I got ready] and they were thinking of putting an even stricter ban on foods! I think its not fair at all. teens [I'm in highschool] like live off of junk food in soda but we arent stupid to make that all we eat. they already took our soda and french fries away, which btw was the best food they had, and now they want to take away sports drinks and DIET sodas! I think thats sooo mean. lunch is the only time we can be happy and having sugar and junk food which most of us dont get at home is like part of that. grrr.
anyways, what I'm asking is that if this was happening at your school, what would you think about it? and what do you think about the whole situation?

yeah I get that people are overweight but thats not their concern. they arent the ones eating it and thats bullsh*t that we can't bring it. even if they don't sell it thats not fair that we arent even allowed to bring it. its going into OUR body not theirs. people have control over what they eat and in the registers at our school theres lists of what parents dont want their kids to buy.
btw to like..the third answer? or whoever said wait until you get into the real world, I am in the real world. you don't know sh*t about me. I've come from a family with so many problems and I've had times where I barely eat for days because my parents can't afford so much food as to last a week because theyre paying bills. so don't even DARE act like you know SH*T because you dont.

I don't really know how you're feeling, but it is stupid to control how we eat on the fact that there are rising rates of obesity in schools, but there's a big difference between elementary, intermediate, and middle schools compared to high schools. Teenagers are older and should be able to control what they want to eat on the fact that we're almost adults.
At my school we are allowed pops and cakes and such, but in middle school, it was all crap. No regular cokes or cakes. They had granola in the snack machine. I just brought my own stuff, but High school brought back cokes, vaults, and honey buns.
I went to this school in Cordova and they only had water in the cafeteria.
I think that we should be able to chose how we want to nourish our bodies. It's okay to eat in moderation and live a healthy lifestyle and such, but for this one crucial point in our lives, we need the extra sugar. It makes us feel good and it is good.
Hope This Helped (some way) :-)

I think they are finally recognizing how obsese the younger population is getting because of all the junk food and sugar filled drinks so are trying to do something about it. If you don't get it at home then doesn't that tell you something? Some kids do live on that stuff and need to learn to eat healthy or they will be dead by the time they are 40! If you want this stuff so badly go to a restaurant at lunch time for french fries and pop. If that isn't an option then buy some pop etc at a corner store and bring it to school with you. You really don't need to be eating that stuff every day anyway.

I'm a senior in high school, and for the most part I think its a good thing, especially for the younger kids in elementary school. 30% of americans are overweight, its ridiculous. Its bc we have bad eating habits and don't exercise. But I do think that when they take away unhealthy drinks like pop, they should replace them with fruit juice, milk, water, etc, same with the snacks. And believe it or not, a lot of kids live off of those things at home, its soda and junk food all the time, thats why they're trying to stop it. My problem with it is that they keep taking things away, but they never replace it with healthier foods. Good Luck

You must be from Massachusetts and must have been watching Fox 25. (I am from Mass too and saw that this morning.)
They want to take away the sodas from the elementary and middle school kids but leave it for the high schoolers during lunch or after school only I believe.
When I was in high school I hated when they turned the soda machines off at lunch, but I knew it was for the better anyway. The schools just want to help kids in making healthier choices for themselves.
Although what REALLY got me mad last year is when a child was sent to school with juice and was sent home with a note "water only please." That is when it has gone too far. They shouldn't be telling parents what to send their kids with school with.
And another thing...the schools want to make the kids healthier BUT then want to cut out recess and gym. For some kids that may be the only exercise they get all day.
I appreciate your rant, and I can remember feeling the same way, but just know that this is not going too far in trying to nip obesity in the bud. If you really want your junk food bring it with you.

They want the kids to eat healthier so they don't become obese and so they don't get lawsuits from angry parents. A lot of middle school and high school kids eat nothing but junk food instead of the meals @ school and drink nothing but soda so the Government thought this would be a better way to combat obesity in teenagers. Yes it's happening at my old school. They took the junk food out and took the pop machines out. When I was in school last year they closed the soda machines after 7th period lunch so kids couldn't get any soda. So if you wanted soda for home then you had to buy it during your lunch period. My 7 year old sister is going to school and they can't bring cupcakes, cookies, chips or any other type of junk food to school. They won't even let the kids bring in juice if it has sugar in it. It has to be 100% natural sugar free juice. And they won't let the little kids celbrate any holidays or birthdays in school anymore because the kids might bring in junk food. In the Intermediate to high school in my old school district the school officals are going to look through everyone's packed lunch and take the junk food and soda and juice that has sugar in it away from the kids. I think it is stupid. I remember when I was in school we had cupcakes for everyone's birthday and I lived off of junk food and soda because my mother never gave me money for school lunch when I was in 12th grade so I ate junk food and bought 2 sodas. One for home and one for school. I think it's nice that the schools are trying to force the kids to eat healty but they are going extreme with all this checking packed lunches and not letting little kids have any parties in school anymore. This is in Ohio.

they took away french fries? that is all i ate for lunch in high school i wouldn't have ate if it wasn't for that....
i understand why they are doing it but at the same time ppl need to make the right choices for them selves its not fair to take away fries and stuff like that for ppl who do eat healthy but some times want something extra!
if that is all your eatting tho you need to talk to your dr. about setting up a healthier diet trust me that is what i ate ( no soda pop though ) and as soon as i graduated i put on 23lbs it was pretty bad

yeah im in highschool and my school didnt take away all that yet. I understand them and i understand you too. its our bodies, and we should be able to do what we want. i go to school to learn and at lunch its my only break of the day. if i want a sport drink, im ganna have it. they cant tell me i cant eat or drink someone i want. i think its rude. and the school officials should look at what they eat in a day. us teens wont be eating anything in school down the road!!
