This is a half-arsed article. It doesn't ask the EU or the consumer rights organisations their opinion on the subject or how other countries have implemented the rule.
Have they even checked to see if the tax is exempt for those with disabilities if they applied to the NHS, or even the fact that many countries health services would bear a large portion of the cost of these scooters.
There are a lot of people that buy these scooters even though they have no need for them and they should be rightly taxed for the privilege, but for those that require it for disability or infirmity should be exempt, yet this article doesn't address this.
However, this article would be mute if the UK had its own manufactures of scooters or it got its scooters from other EU countries.

I agree with almost none of the edicts coming out of the EU but in this case they have a point.
There has been quite a bit in the papers about the misuse of these 'scooters'. Some of them are massive and I have, more than once had to jump out of the way before being mown down. Far too many of these people are complete 'pavement hogs'. Being disabled doesn't turn you into a saint - they are just as prone as anyone else to abuse their 'rights'.
This is not an atttack on disability, it is a comment on the selfish behaviour of some disabled people who have now ruined it for the rest.

It's way out of hand. It should have stayed what it was meant to be: a group of nations who don't charge one another for import duties, and some other rules to help one another survive economically. Not this super state which creates all these silly rules for all these millions of people, who might not be helped at all by rules such as your example.

What a disgrace!!
I think the E.U need to shake up and get with it.
These people are unfortunate enough to even have to use these scooters in the first place but, then to be taxed for doing so is daylight robbery.
One of the only things you can be sure of in life is taxes.!!

Until everyone has the balls to vote for a party to rid us of the EU, it will just get worse and worse.
Many don't like the EU or immigration but they don't have the intelligence to vote BNP or UKIP.
I hope there are more stupid things like this to come, then maybe one day BNP will get in.
