By their very nature, Carol services are Christian services so why do people feel the need to make them 'inclusive' to people of other religions?

Yes and No:

No. They are a good example of the outworkings of a pluralist multi-cultural society. Many non-Christians celebrate Christmas in our society, selecting elements that they feel comfortable and can justify within their faith. (e.g. many Muslims accept Jesus (Isa) to be a great prophet). Many also celebrate it simply for the sake of a positive family event and get together.

Yes. It could be considered an oxymoron, mainly among devoted Christians and people of other faiths, who would consider that the message of many carols is the affirmation of Jesus as the Messiah, to be incompatible with other Faith positions or atheism.

In conclusion, I think they are to be welcomed as a means of celebrating and sharing faith. However, I can see why strict devotees of faith, whether Christian or otherwise, will not be able to reconcile the doctrinal differences.

Not necessarily because Muslims regard Jesus as a prophet anyway. Although we are becoming increasingly more secular, the UK is still, technically, a Christian country. People of other religions coming here must accept that and , in all fairness, I think they do. It's the hard line lefties who want to destroy our traditions not other faiths.
How many of you here, whether religious or not, enjoy a good old carol service. Apart from anything else it reminds many of us of our childhoods and is very nostalgic!

Christmas is Christian, no denying that, and even though I don't follow any religion anymore I enjoy the spirit of Christmas. That is my choice and by making that choice I decided not to be offended by anyone celebrating the true meaning of Christmas the true way.

That's true enough. We don't see the mosques and temples opening their doors to other faiths at their times of celebration....or at anytime come to think of it.

True. At our local Church of England school the headmistress invites everyone to pray. And to those who don't believe in our God, please pray to your God.
Huh? Why go to a Christian school if you don't believe in it?
The world is mad.
