Our baby is due in June 2008. We are planning to leave Ireland to move to the U.K. in May 2009 to live for 2 years. Sometime in 2011 we plan to move from the U.K. to the U.S. We plan on taking the cot/ or cot bed with us to the U.K. but not taking any bed with us to the U.S. What would you purchase a cot or cot bed?

I would get a cot that you can take the sides off to convert to a toddler style bed in case the child decides it has had enough of the cot.

If you move from the UK to US in 2011 then the baby will be well over 2 by then and need to be in toddler bed style well before it. Save yourself the money now and get a convertable cot. Also if you make the cot into a bed well before you move, the child will be adjusted to it and hopefully not have any trouble adjusting to a normal bed when you get to the US.

hope that helps. get the convertible cot bed

I would buy a cotbed, they don't cost much more and depending on your child you might want to put them in the bed bit quite early.
My son had a cot bed and was using it as a bed rather than a cot by age one. He is two and a half now and sleeps in a miidi sleeper single bed as I have turned the cotbed back into a cot for my new baby due in feb.

Just a cot - baby will be able to go in a bed proper before his/her 2nd birthday! Mine has just gone into one at 20 months quite happily.

AND bedding for a cot bed is much more expensive!

i would say cot bed personally so you can convert it into a bed when the baby is older. my daughter was in a proper bed when she was about 1.5 years old. only thing with cot beds is apparently they arent as comfortable for the baby but if you invest in a good matress for it im sure it would be fine
