I would posit the opposite, that immorality is the result of ignorance. However I wouldn't necessarily say the converse is true, that morality is the result of knowledge.
Typically, immorality leads to unwanted side-effects: STDs, children, guilt, social or family trouble etc etc etc. Our sexually free society has tried to alleviate some of those consequences - the guilt for one - but in spite of all our knowledge and technology, the safest sex is still no sex. Condoms break. Birth control pills don't always work. Families - well they're about as predictable as the weather.
People considering these consequences usually leads to an increase in morality. There are, of course, exceptions, which is why I tend to agree that only stupid people are breeding.... (and I don't even own a TV)
In regards to other non-sexual moral behavior - humans are social animals. We live as a community organism. Morality defines a set of internal rules that govern what is best for the community - ie consequences for murder, rape, other forms of victimization etc. These moral rules lead to a more stable community. Being immoral leads to a significantly less stable community (lots of murder, stealing, rape - not good for public relations). Therefore it stands to reason that the "more intelligent" or "wiser" choice is to be moral. The "ignorant" choice would be to be immoral, since those actions would imply an ignorance of the consequences imposed by the community.

Perhaps, I think ethics is the result of one's constant search for knowledge. Morality is usually referred to by people with a poor sense of ethics, people who prefer rules over principles.

In a way, it is. Morality is a set of rules (i.e. order) which is supposed to offset the fear of anarchy (i.e. chaos). Fear, of course, can be interpretted as ignorance. Maybe this is the meaning of the maxim that a truly knowledgable person is beyond the concepts of good and evil.

No - quite the opposite. Morality falls out from self-awareness and love.

It can be. Are you thinking things through and creating moral rules that are guideposts to action.... or are you blindly following the rules set up by others whether they address the actually needs of your current situation or not?
