Some people (like my roommate) are lacking in self-confidence and are generally aware that their direction in life is not a great one - so, whenever a question arises or an argument needs to be resolved, these people put in their two cents to feel needed, knowledgable, and powerful. It just boils down to self-worth. Those who know truly know, don't have to prove it.
