I think SOME animal testing is okay, but ONLY if the animal are well cared for.

Some animal testing is necessary, eg for medical or veterinary research.

We currently do not have the technology to completely replace animal testing. Scientists are working on "alternative" methods, and some have already replaced the use of animals in some types of testing. As we improve these alternatives, and discover more, anmials will gradually be phased out.
Scientists do not use animals unnecessarily - by law (in the UK at least) alternatievs MUST be used if they exist. Animal testing is also very expensive and time consuming - alternative methods are cheaper and easier.

Animals have contributed a huge amount to medical science - and have saved lives. Vaccines (eg polio), pain relief, anaestetics, even blood transfusions were developed using animals.
If we just banned animal testing now we would cripple medical research - we just aren't ready yet.

Animals are also used for veterinary research - without it you wouldn't be able to get your pets vaccinated, or treaetd for illness.

It is true that animals and humans are not the same, but this doesn't mean animal tseting is useless.
Animals and humans have a lot of things in common which can help. We can also use our differences, eg if one species of animal doesn't get sick from a disease but we do - we can look into this and find out why, and maybe replicate this.

Obviously I am against unnecessary testing such as cosmetics!

Testing can involve some pretty brutal treatment and usually test animals not used have to be killed because they can't be used in a different test. I think animal testing is pretty cruel and unusual treatment and should not be allowed. Animals are sentient beings. Humans often like to downplay the idea that animals are feeling creatures that can reason. The more time you spend around animals, the more you realize just how smart they are. Humans should not take advantage of or abuse other creatures just because they assume they are higher on the evolutionary chain and, therefore, it's their right. It's actually pretty simple. Those that consider themselves so high on the scale should know better.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe that animal testing is necessary unless the substances that are being tested are for animals.
How many times is the past have drugs which were tested on animals and declared fit for humans caused the most horrific side effects.
Animal and human metabolisms are just not compatible and I just fail to see how people can justify testing substances such as cosmetics, wash powder, perfumes and the like on animals. Animals don't use that sort of thing, they don't tart themselves up like a dog's dinner and douse themselves in scent before they hit the town, so why should they suffer for our vanities.
Substances that are meat for people should be tested on people and not animals.

I personally think it depends on the situation. I am a biomedical science student and a vegetarian - yet I dissect animals regularly as part of my degree. Most of these animals (rats) have been used for other medical-related research before they get to us e.g. for genetic research for cancers etc etc - it doesn't neccessary make it right, but the rats certainly aren't killed in vain. And much of our research can be applied to animal health sciences as well as human health - animal testing isn't always for the well-being of "us". If you are talking about animal testing for cosmetics, I don't agree with that at all. It's a typical example of the true evilness of humans.

Its undesirable. What makes us think of we've the wonderful to inflict soreness and torture on different creatures. additionally, there is not any assure that a human will react an identical thank you to an animal. look on the scientific trial that got here approximately at Northwick Park hospital with awful effects - that had long undergone animal finding out first. many stuff that human beings delight in may be poisonous to distinctive animals. I comprehend that hundreds of trials have taken place without those effects, yet truthfully the rigors which do flow incorrect interior the human degree are info of this. I additionally realize that without all the animal trials that have taken place traditionally we does no longer have lots of necessary and significant drugs; nor might we've the 100s of hues of purple lipsticks, the multitude of perfumes attainable or the shampoo which smells like rainforests, and so on. i think of this contemporary day whilst there are different techniques of finding out products, that's unacceptable for the extensive conglomerates to proceed to animal attempt to maintain their earnings margin. i in my opinion think of that somebody who has committed a criminal offense which incorporate homicide, rape, newborn abuse might desire to be examined on on an identical time as in reformatory. If the tax payer has to pay to residing house and feed them then they must grant some thing lower back to society. i comprehend that the argument here is this might flow against their user-friendly human rights, yet truthfully they gave those up the minute they infringed on somebody else's human rights.

Otherwise, animals get real joy from human involvement. They jump on you as soon as you come in your front door. (at least the fleas in my house do)
Some test animals can develop a good connection with their handlers ... at least, that's what Hagrid says
