we are learning about particles; bohr's model/diagram, ions, nomenclature... Isn't 8th grade early to learn about all of that? (at the same time as balencing equations, ionic/covalent bonds etc..)

When did YOU learn those things?

That's not that early. I learned about them in 8th grade, but that was a private school. I learned about them again when I went to public high school and took AP chemistry freshman year. It probably depends on what school you go to. Keep in mind though, it might be different now. That was 11 years ago.

I think it depends. I think I did that in 8th grade. If I recall correctly we did a decent amount of chemistry and also got rather into biology. It's nice for us because as we entered high school, chemistry was a required class. I suppose the real question is what would you be learning if you didn't learn chem?

I don't think this is the kind of thing that it can be "too early" to learn. Not to say that it is urgent, but just that it's not going to cause any problems.
