Sex and City is a popular TV show. All four girls call each other friends. But in one of the episodes when they were having a lunch at a restaurant - they paid money individually for their lunch. It looked so indifferent. I mean, they call each other friends but they paid money on their own for their food. Such a things does not happen in our country. When we friends go out, one of us pay the whole money on our behalf, next time, another friend pays and so forth. May I know why such a different thing happens in the USA?

I think this is more prevalent in cities, where people have multiple circles of friends.

I am not even from US but i will give an answer.
Friends have eachother for good and the bad days. That's for sure. But unless you are very rich you can not always pay the other's bills.
Of course you can invite your friends it is a good thing ( and in Sex and the city they invite eachother a lot by the way) but not always because you have your own responsabilities, needs, debts, bills, too.
And the questions you ask are not related to this section at all.

Cultural differences, and also eating out is expensive in the West and maybe if one person was to pay the whole bill it would leave them short of cash. In the West many people use credit cards and do not have a lot of cash available and live by juggling credit from one lender to another.

For friendship sake. Money is still exchangeable, but not friendship.
