multiply

in other words: you have 5/6 and 12

12 = 12/1

so 5/6 x 12/1 (multiply top and then bottom)

you get 50 for top, 5 for bottom (50/5)

simplify it (divide each number by five)

final answer: 10/1 or

10

5/6 * 12 = 5/6 * 12 / 1 = 10 (12 and 6 can be simplified)

(5/6) x (12/1) = 60 / 6 = 10
OR
5/6 x 12 = 5 x 2 = 10
OR
5/6 x 12 = 60/6 = 10

ok this may be long but it works- I just finished taking an extensive elementary math education class and I am very excited to be able to answer your question

You need to draw pictures ( i am going to go with circles and call them pies)

Draw 12 pies and divide them into 6 pieces

explain to your child that each of the pies is on pie (you can even decide that each pie is a different flavor- put a little fun into it)

tell your child that everyone at the party where these pies were served at 5/6ths of the pies

so lightly shade in 5 out of the 6 pieces of the 12 pies

now count the shaded pieces by sixes, and every time you get a group of six make a tally somewhere

In the end, those Tally's should add up to ten

EEK i just spent a long time explaining this when i should be in bed :) i hope this helps

= (5/6) x (12)
= (5/6) x (6 x 2)
so, (6/6) = 1
= 5 x 2
= 10
God bless>>>>
