I am onto baby number three, exactly 2mths now, and am already getting the 'are you going to find out' questions.
I didn't find our with my first because I just had no desire to and wanted that surprise and I had a very strong hunch that it was a girl anyway. (It was a girl!)
I did find out with my second because hubby wanted to and it seemed like fun and practical to do it. I also really wanted a boy so was dying to find out. (It was a boy!)
Now this time, hubby has already said he wants to know, which has led our 5.5 year old daughter to say she wants to know but since I already have a boy and a girl and therefore all the start up stuff I need, why should I find out? Its my last time for a surprise since we aren't having anymore.
I'm quite torn and realise I have a while to think about it but want to know why you did/didn't find out.
thanks

My wife and I are expecting our first in January. We have decided to not to find out because in light of all the medical technology of which we are thankful for, the mystery of the gender is one of life's last romantic things to do.
Saying that, I can imagine a 5.5 year old wanting to know and if this makes the rest of your family really happy then maybe you find out and share in the joy of preparing (clothes etc) with your daughter (and husband).
Lastly, here is an idea: At one of the scans, could the doctor tell your dad and not tell you? Then your dad could tell your daughter and they could know - but I BET they couldn't keep the secret!
Good luck :)

I was told with my first pregnancy that I was having a girl and a boy. They told me right up to labour day, when I *popped* out 2 boys. They also stuffed up my babies weights.
I am not going to find out with this baby (I am 16 weeks). They got it so wrong the first time. But I cannot handle secrets so I probably will find out!
I am pretty lucky because my baby things are white, yellow & green. Natural colours, so it doesn't matter what sex the baby is to me.
I wouldn't find out! I would wait until bub comes out. You have a boy and a girl so a nice surprise wouldn't hurt anyone!!
Good Luck

I worked in labor and delivery in the Philippines in the early 1980s and was a medical technician in the Air force. I hope someday to be a Dad, and want the surprise I saw so many people had when their babies were born by them not knowing the sex of their newborn. Since it's your last baby, why not be surprised?

well i have had 2 children and both times i found out, the first time (boy) i did because i just just never though not to ... and it got the better of me anyways!
With my 2nd (girl) i thought about if i wanted to know, so we just decided it would be easier to get things ready in certain colours instead of white or green, whatever ... but as you have everything no matter wat sex it is why not have a surprise..you already have a peach n a pear rite

I also had strong hunches that were correct. with my first, i just knew she was a girl...and i told everyone i was having a boy this time before i had a sonogram....sometimes we just know. talk it over with your husband and tell him your feelings, and that its important to you that you keep it a surprise. see if you can compromise. personally, i wanted to know for sure just to see if my hunches were correct. i also wanted to know so i could prepare for the baby to be here (whether i needed to buy girl or boy clothes to take the baby home from the hospital, what color to set up the room, and what name to be sure of!)

I had to know!! Both because I wanted to be prepared but also because I couldn't bear the looonnng wait! People say it wasn't a surprise for us but it still was, just a surprise a few months earlier! (I hoped for a girl and was right) We had her name picked and nursery ready and waiting.

a reason to find out is if you don't have names picked out. i had a tough time thinking about names that it was nice to think for just one gender.
you have the luxury of being surprised, so why not? i wish i didn't tell people what i was having because i got inundated with gender-specific items, leaving me in a situation to acquire more gear if my next one is different. i think such practice is wasteful.
congratulations!!
