i realise there is more then health care but as one of the most powerful and richest nations in the world you'd think that health care would be somewhere near the top of the countries to do list, although the whole Iraq ting means they do need good security! and the pension over there is sh!t (i hear) seems to me like there too busy starting wars to keep there citizens health and alive!

Yep, America has it's share of downfalls I will agree. I think we need a NHS. There are people who won't go to the Dr or the hosptial because they don't have insurance and are either afraid of being refused treatment or given poor care. But then illegal immigrants get treated for free and it comes out of our tax dollars. There is something wrong with our system. And taxes, we pay taxes on everything, some items we are taxed more than once. First on a city, then state and then federal level!!!! And as far as what our taxes actually go for I can tell you what we are told, but that doesn't mean that they actually go for that. A lot of tax money is wasted on "earmarking by Congress. Giving Congressmen and women the chance of "doing favors" for those who do for them first. We need a revised tax system, the one we have in place definately does not work in today's world. The tax system of today unfortunately protects the rich and hurts the middle class and poor.
And no, you don't have to pay more for gas if you don't have insurance. You simply won't be driving. If you drive without insurance you'll catch heck ever getting it again, you'll be fined horrifically and possibly lose your license!!! I do agree with insurance, it protects all of us.
I lived in Germany for years and loved it. I would love to retire in Ireland, my family's homeland. I love my country and am a Veteran of the US Army but we are losing the freedoms we pay so dearly for.
This of course, is only my personal opinion!!!!!

No there is no extra for gas but if you get caught you will pay a fine and maybe go to jail. Taxes are used for repairs to streets buildings parks and of course politicians pockets. I really believe we as Americans should have free medical care.

Our taxes go to the Federal Government to fund all their idiotic programs. Plus it pays for our representation in Gov. then we pay city and state taxes as well, which pay for the general running of the city/state. Schools, libraries, roads, cops. Yes, you are supposed to have car insurance here. it is a law. But no, you don't pay extra for gas. Just in fines, if you don't have it.
