The only safe method is direct funds transfer from one account to another. You do this using the 'Bill Payment' option available via on-line banking. If you are transferring funds to some-one who's account is with the same Bank/Building Society, it can go through on the same (or next) day. Transfers to other banks can take up to 3 days.

For larger amounts (£10,000 upwards) you can pay for a same day SWIFT transfer (typically £25).

If you don't have on-line access to your account, you could use an 'indirect' payment method such as PayPal, but there will be some charges (and it usually takes 5-6 days longer).

Anything that involves paper being sent through the post will take longer and is higher risk.
