Do you enjoy hearing/telling gossip, or being nosey and intrusive?
What kind of satisfaction does one get in spreading gossip and rumors?
What do you/they get out of it, personally?
Do think there will come a day when you/they, will have to "pay the piper" for such behavior?

You know the old saying what goes around comes around? well it does.
I will talk about something if I know it to be factual. If I hear one friend talking about other friend/s or people we know in common, if I feel less than comfortable about it I just say something like "oh well thats just the way it is isnt it" or "I didnt hear it first hand so I cant comment", or my stock standard favourite "I dont know him/her/them well enough to comment" - an easy way to stall the conversation in a nice manner. As friends get to know you better they will know they are in territory you dont want to be treading.

Yes. I don't think it is about satisfaction. It is about how you were raised and live. And I don't think spreaders actually think of it that way. they are repeating what they heard. It is like being in a chain or family. Personally, I dont think it really touches them and that is perhaps why they do it without thinking of the negative consequences. They get out of it, a sense of belonging to the group. Be a part of it. It also makes some people feel more important. They are gossiped about as much as they spread it so they know what goes around comes around.

I hate gossips... and yeah, they will have to pay a price if they get caught and in case their rumours caused damage or something...

I do gossip but i don't spread rumors or anything. n my gossiping does not hurt anyone .
