They should all be put on a Cruise ship and talk each other to death with infinite detail. But no, do not shoot them.

They might appear cumbersome to people who like to get to the point fast, but some other people do appreciate detailed answers, which by the way only mean that someone has received your question well and is ready to give their serious thought. There are no answers that can be interminable long as all answers eventually have to come to a certain conclusion:
In my view these are the qualities that an answer has to have in order to be detailed for any a reasonable amount of attention span: an answer should be genuine, that is, it should contains genuine ideas of the answerer; it should be properly paragraphed; it should not have grammatical, or spelling errors; it should be coherent with step-by-step development of ideas; normally it should not be longer than five hundred words; and it should be one way or the other conclusive in the end, which means that it should sum up in the end what it has been trying to lead you to.
When I compose a long answer, for instance, I usually start off at the top of my head, where the first ideas are the first thoughts that come to my mind, and then it is a little journey into the unknown, that leads me onto further related thoughts, notions and idea that even often I do not know that I have known - and this is where I feel as if my efforts are rewarded. And then I proceed to make sure that I do justice to the people who are going to read, of have to read, what I have laid down. I try to write an answer, and I admit it, that would be ‘the best answer’ in the lot.
I try to be clear, creative, genuine, interesting and most relevant to the range set by the question. I try to raise vital human concerns in all my questions, try to create an uplifting affect in feelings and normally like to end with a flourish; I try to be good, most touching, universal or at least brilliant in the end.

Do I guess rightly that you don't like long answers?
If that's the case, perhaps the additional details box should be used to make that plain to potential respondents. E.g.,
Q: What is the meaning of life?
Details: In 100 words, none of which may rhyme with 'vermouth.'
------------
But, hey, I LOVE to ramble on and on in my responses.
This isn't just a Question to Answer, it's a chance to impress the rubes, a chance to slip a gross pun under the radar, a chance to annoy, etc.
I only wish I COULD write interminably, but I can't. At some point, it becomes counter productive. Currently, that seems to be at around 1500 words.
I won't do that here. The question isn't really all that strong, and this ain't my main thread.
Maybe next time.

Now that depends, firstly we need to explain what interminably means. According to my dictionary on the computer, it means endless. And in this case where going to have to say it does have an end because no one will be able to continue writing without sore wrists and running out of room to type in the box provided. As far as long in concerened, well again it depends if you consider this to be a long answer? Its only going to be approximately 15 lines long. I dont think thats too bad considering ive seen full song lyrics on here before. I believe being shot is a bit extreme. maybe a good spanking would be fine. I know i would like that. I hope this has detered you from asking questions and i hope to be of more help to you in the future.

Edit: You can't win either way. If I give a brief answer, I normally get a sarcastic answer about my well thought out answer. You should specify, if you want me to elaborate. Sometimes I have already answered the same question, a million times, in detail. Stop asking the same questions. It tells you if someone else has already posted a similar question. So why go ahead and post it again. People need to get their act together. OK! Not too long for you I hope. Im I going to get shot?

On the whole, yes, but sometimes you need the answer to be that length just to get the point across or include important facts. Long answers to simple questions that are just self gratuitous are most annoying! Second only to those who copy large pieces of text from Wikipedia, which is just someones opinion anyway!!

If I open a question and I need to scroll down to read it all I leave it and go on to another one. If I see a long answer then I might read it if the question has an interesting theme but if it does not say much before I need to scroll down then I move on. I hope you mean a metaphorically Shot and not actually shot.
Happy Christmas.

I agree about not copy and pasting from Wiki, but if some questions need longer answers and people want to give them, it is a good idea to lay them out so that they are easier to read. This means using paragraphs, and spaces between them if it looks clearer.

For Heaven's sake, you can't answer a complex and difficult question in short text phrases. I'm one who answers in length when required, what's the point otherwise? It's no help to anyone in short, stale, two-word shots. Some replies are babble, true. Just don't read them.

I do this. It's because i type very fast and am in a hurry because i have other things to do, i.e. i have a life. This often means i end up with long answers because i don't have time to edit them to make them shorter. I think Mark Twain said that he wrote something long because he didn't have time to make it shorter.

Maybe not shot, tasered for sure. Most of the time the bulk of those answers are just copied from somewhere else anyway.
