You could be sad because of feeling the pressure of doing what others want you to do and not feeling like your doing what you want to do. Maybe your just down on what might be going on in your life, and concealing your own emotions. Some people are like that , strong willed but embarrassed to show true feeling. This might be happening because you do not want to release emotion but conceal it, and sometimes it randomly shows up, and your feeling empty inside.
Another reason could be that you have a seasonal disorder. I am not putting these ideas close to depression, but through chemistry and it is not your fault. If you live up north or in a place with four distinct seasons (fall winter spring summer) and its changes, you might be missing the light from the sun. This is explained through chemistry, your eyes need the light from the sun to hit them. It hits a molecule in all of our eyes called opsin molecule. That molecule when hit breaks off a radical which transmits a signal to the brain. This is cause for people honestly to buy light boxes. If it is seasonal disorder, it is not your fault, it biological that you have a symptom and you can use the box for a cure. The question to give criterion for you is... are you happier in the sun?
could be either of two thoughts, I hope this helps with your understanding.

You might have a mild case of manic depression. That is when you have mood swings and you don't know why, you can be really happy one moment and really sad the next. But don't worry Manic depression is quite common in females and some males have it. If you feel that it's not allowing you to live your life normally then perhaps you should consider therapy, otherwise you can just consider insight and understand yourself and you'll see why. However, sometimes manic depression can occur because of a hormone imbalance, But that's only for severe cases.
btw, manic depression is most likely in teen years and pretty normal then.

I'm pretty sure it's depression sweetheart. While I can't help you to understand how you got depression (seeing as I don't know your lifestyle) I do know there is an over-the-counter all natural herbal supplement that is an option of taking. It increases the serotonin in the brain and helps you to become more consistant with your feelings and emotions. You can get 5-HTP at any grocery store in the medicine isle for around $7.
Serotonin is a chemical in the brain that is responsible for overall happiness.

I have that too. Most of the time I figure out what's making me sad, but I figure it out after a few days of being very sad and/or scared. I'm not bipolar, I think I'm just sensitive.

Look at your self in a mirror, right in your eyes. Are you mad with you partner, parent, friend. but can't say it to them?
If Yes. Say it right away, not matter what the outcome.
If you looks are what you think are problem, then on google, find the most ugliest female, and read her bio. It will give courage. Vrgina Wolf was a good writer.
If you have any kind of disability, read Helen Keller. about a deaf, mute and blind girl, who rose up to be a teacher.

Sounds like depression to me - it's a chemical problem. You're not getting enough serotonin. Eat chocolate...well, that will help temporarily. For a longer term solution try running, yoga, talking to a therapist - combining all three will help the most.
You can also work on yourself - think about who you are, what you like doing, try new things, discover yourself. This will help you feel more content with yourself.

You could be depressed and there isn't really any one cause for it, there is treatment though. Go have a talk with your family Doctor and see what happens. Are you sad in patterns? or just every now and then? P.M.S. is always a bummer. I hope you feel better soon.
