this helps scientist know how our current ecosystem has been affected and developed over the ages...its helps us understand why that creature/animal was so important to that current ecosystem and what the effects were when they became extinct...it can also help us use the information as tools to educate ourselves about conserving what we have here and now...hope this helped!! best wishes

When a species goes extinct, a branch of the evolutionary tree dies. Fewer branches makes it harder to understand evolutionary changes. Even today, species are important in understanding evolutionary linkages. If that species goes extinct, like the panda or the condor, we lose valuable information.
