Throughout the birth of our nation and up until the Civil War people were routinely murdered for political reasons.
Since that time, it has been sporadic and highlighted by the answers you've gotten here.
During the Clinton years, Susan McDougal comes to mind as having been jailed for political reasons in protecting him and some would say others were killed.

I believe JFK murder in 1963 was a classical political murder...also Guantanamo bay prisoners or at least some of them are political prisoners, no doubt about it...I don't now about senator McCarthy period in 1950's ,when communists were trialed, but I suppose some of them were also sent to jail...When white racists murdered Martin Luther King, that was maybe racially motivated murder, but it was also political murder, because white extremists feared the rise of the black power...not to mention Abe Lincoln's murder which was also politically motivated...

i don't think it ever happened or if it did happen its more or less not the main cause of the incident..there are more of race, hatred, economic and racial discriminations that causes killings, murderes and being jailed thats happening in the USA.

Yes. Scooter Libby was prosecuted even when the real person who outed Valerie Plame was known by the prosecutor.
(As if someone who drives to CIA headquarters every day for work and does full spreads in popular magazines can be "outed" by anyone.)
