Today out of no where, my laptop(An IBM T42) shut off completely with no warning at all. It would not turn back on at first so i took out the battery and unplugged it for a while. After about i minute i put the battery back in and plugged it back in and it turned on just fine. But after a while i noticed that when sending messages in aim or windows live messenger my computer would freeze a moment then send the message when they were literally instant before.

Also, and this is the big one, when i use internet explorer, it will eventually freeze and i have to end the not responding task. Then i can no longer open anything until i completely restart my computer.

is there any reason this could be happening? do i have a virus? is my computer just crapping out on me?

If shutdown occured while you were surfing the net, a virus may have caused the shutdown. It does this so that the next time you boot, it will load ahead of your anti virus and practically disable it. Try booting in SAFE mode then scan for virus.

possibility is you have a deadly disease on the workstation that's combating it from functioning properly. devoid of understanding the marvelous sort and precise warning signs i won't be able to grant a further diagnosis. although, i propose that on the subsequent available possibility, you're taking the workstation on your community workstation/workstation fix centre and clarify to them what your issue is.
