You got all kinds of answers here, didn't you? I stood with my outfit on the Florida shores waiting for transport that was landing, we were going to jump into Cuba when they signaled.
The Russians insisted they had a right to go to Cuba with Nuke mussels, the U.S. Navy warned them off, they fired shots across the bows of a Russian ship warning them, Kennedy wasn't messing around, he didn't work that way.
Gorbachev went crazy at the U.N. but all he did was make an *** out of himself.
The Cubans set up many missile site 90 miles from out borders and when Kennedy heard that and could prove it, he said "No No" get them out and right now.
This is one of the times we came close to a fighting war with Russia. I'll always wonder how it would have come out. I know we'd have sunk the Russian fleet but, the repercussions.

Conflicts
Kennedy left fidel kastro, a sworn enemy of the USA at 90 miles south of the border. Very bad thing to do
He didn't invade Cuba when he should have. Bad thing as well
For almost 50 years, fidel has done everything in its power to harm the USA. Had not Gorbachev unwillingly pulverized comunism, fidel would be today knocking at the White House and telling Bush to beat it, because it was taking charge
Compromise ? I think I said enough

One conflict was the blockade imposed by the United States.
At the same time it might be considered a compromise because it was not called a "blockade." Technically a blockade is considered an act of war. So the compromise was calling it an "embargo."
