I have a HP PSC 1110 all-in-one and it has been doing quite a great job for printing and scanning needs for a long time.

However I have discovered that recently that when it is switched on, it makes a terrible and irritating noise that sounds like screwed-up gears. But after that, the printer operates normally.

I want to know the source of this problem and also possible solutions to this issue. The noise is loud and unpleasant to the years and I want to fix it.

Any help and assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I understand that printers DO make noise on startup. But recently the noise has increased and become annoying and I do not think it's normal.

No earmuff or sound-proofing suggestions please.

Most printers 'reset' themselves by moving the print heads back and forwards at high speed in a 'head cleaning' cycle at power on.

It's possible (paper) dust / grit has gotten into the gears or the guide rail - or they are they are simply wearing out (I expect they are all made of plastic) = if you can get at the gears / guide rail you may be able to clean them and perhaps add a spot of oil, but these things are usually 'sealed for life' so I doubt there is much you can do

HP units are known for their expensive replacement ink cartridges .. so you may be better off scrapping it and buying something with lower running costs (I suggest Canon eg. MP530 range).

I even have had 5 MRIs over the final 2 years and that they do no longer seem to be that undesirable, have faith me. The noise is tolerable and each facility I even have had an MRI in has provided me head telephones with despite track decision I want. The technicians flow out of their thank you to confirm you're mushy. wish this helps.

I have a great idea! Either put ear-plugs or ear-muffs on, or sound proof it! Do it right now!
