There are only two moving parts inside a computer.

1, Hard drive

2. Fan

Some newer laptops may have a fan for the graphics card chip.

This problem is almost certain to be your CPU fan.

If the hard drive was making a really bad sound, your pc wouldnt be working properly.

I've had a really old laptop that makes a strange, LOUD noise (not just scratching) whenever the harddisk is about to stop spinning. I'm sometimes become scared myself, hearing such a loud noise.

Fortunately for me, it's old and useless to me since I've got much newer laptops. But for new a laptop to sound like that, you should claim your warranty and be carefree. Most possibly it's a damaged harddisk or fans (as some other answerers had pointed out), most possibly since the sound is located near the CPU, it'll be the CPU fan that's making the noise.

Laptops should be OK left overnight, I do it sometimes, both because of a sleepy attack that I don't have the time to turn off the laptop, and also deliberate letting on to do something like downloading.

Audible scratching sound neat the processor..
I'd bet a nickel it's your processor fan having some bearing issues.

If you still have a warranty bring it in.

i bet you anything it's the power input..like the cable..or the jack
because mine..was..the exact same thing..
i bought the laptop..about..1 year..2 months ago..called dell..no more warranty..told us to send it in..380$$..i was like..what.!!?
no
so we opened it all up..saughter it..then we had to buy a new cable..make sure the end of your cable has a sharp turn..like...a corner..if it is a just a straight one...there is no way that the power line.inside the cord..will snap.
i hope you understand what i mean
good luck on getting it fixed
PEACE OUT
