I was told there are two type of holly plants, male and female. I bought one with berries, but don't know if that is really true or not. What is that type? Does it need another type indoors near it? I think it does outside to propagate... any info would help, I'm kind of new to taking care of plants indoors.

Holly that has red berries, then you are using pistillate "female" plants.

Definition: pistillate
In plant reproduction terminology, pistillate literally means, "bearing pistils." Pistillate plant parts are "female": i.e., they bear ovules and produce seeds.

PS
To my knowledge all female hollys produce berries as long as there is a male near by. NOT just one type of holly.

How to Grow Holly/link below
You might want to do some research about growing holly indoors. I personally have never heard of it.
In order to produce berries female holly plants need a male plant growing within 30 to 40 feet away.
Hollies like full sun, well drained organic acidic soil.
