i received a letter in the mail saying that i won 125,000 and in the letter was a check for 4875.00 that i can cash/deposit in my bank. i thought this was a fake but the check looked real. well i call the number from the letter and they said i won because i entered in some sweepstakes. so all i needed to do was take it to the bank i keep 2000.00 and the rest send back in taxes so i can get my 125,000.00. well the check had the name of a well known bank which i wont say. i go to the bank teller tells me i have to ask my supervisor if this is real and that we can cash it. supervisor said its ok give the customer what he needs. i kept 2000.00 then bank said lets save the rest until the check clears...check was fake at the end..Do I Owe The 2000.00 The Bank Gave Me even though it was there error in not checking the check enough...i am being charged the 2000.00 they say i owe them??? its there fault

Unfortunately this is going on all over the country. Then you are supposed to send so much money to the place that sent you the check.

There is nothing you can do except contact your local authorities and the postmaster.

You have to give the bank the money back.

Sorry for your trouble.

this is a well known scam. I have received several large checks which were all fake. They to said I could keep the remainder after sending them $2000.00. I never sent them the $2000.00. of course all of the checks were worthless. Yes, you owe the bank the money they gave you because the check you deposited was worthless. sorry, but that is the way things work.

in case you ask the economic company, they are going to say it incredibly is yours. They fairly much in no way admit to making a mistake. And what the guy on the telephone tells you is somewhat like the government - they don't seem to be in charge for statements made by utilising their workers. i might blame the economic company. 21 days for a money order to sparkling is far too long (except it incredibly is from an foreign places source). maximum folk do not take pictures of any exams they receive, so in case you probably did not the MO won't be traceable. yet examine with the economic company to make certain in the event that they took a picture.

No, it is not their fault. In fact, they did you a favor by holding on to the other $2,875.00. If they had sent that money out, you would owe that as well. Pay back the $2,000 and consider yourself very lucky. Failing to pay back the money opens you to criminal charges and the bank can sue you for the money as well.

You are responsible for items depositited in your account. The bank may have a policy, based upon your activitiy, to release some funds before they clear. But if they dont clear, you must pay it back.

Unfortunately, you do. You've been scammed.
This is fraud, depending on the bank, they may cut you some slack, or none at all.
What they did was a federal offense.
Ask the bank how you report this to the FBI.
