I should have mentioned that I'm only talking about elective abortion here- not cases where a life is in danger.

One more question for anyone who hasn't answered yet:

If a woman was raped, became pregnant, and had the child do you believe we should punish the child for the crime of its father?

I'm actually (delightfully) surprised that most of the answers here have been pro-life. Most of the Answers topics I have seen/answered that have been associated with abortion have had a majority of pro-choicers.

As much as I am against it, I feel that it is necessary under severe circumstances. A women being raped by a thug and getting pregnant and when the life of either or both are jepordized, I will say it is justifiable....

There's no way you can justify it because it is murder -period. No matter how you look at it, it's murder. A fetus is a term used for 'unborn baby', but it's STILL a baby, no matter what. It's a living being and should NOT be aborted. EVERY unborn baby deserves a chance at life so he/she can live out their lives. There are other options - abortion is just the 'quick way out', but of course, not the right way. If the parent(s) can't afford to raise the child or there is some other reason or reasons why he/she can't afford to keep the child, then they can give it up to a foster home and put it up for adoption. There are many couples in society today that cannot have children and would love the opportunity to raise a child. Even in a foster home, that child still has an opportunity to live their life.

Did you hear that? Justifying abortion because they would go to "back alley" clinics if it wasn't legal. That argument is older than the Roe v Wade decision that brought on this mess.
Questions 1-4 are YES.
4 of the next 5 are NO.
Medically necessary for the life of the mother happens in less than .1% of abortions, the other 99.9% of abortions are for convenience. Some of those 99.9% WERE potential Einsteins, Lincolns, Kennedy (JFK), Apostle's, Aristotle's, Galileo's, Columbus, Washington.............................
My statistics may be slightly off but the effect is the same. The "medically necessary" justification is needed extremely rarely.

In Judaism abortion is mandatory if the fetus threatens the life of the mother. This law is in effect until the majority of the body is out of the mother's body.

Personally, there is no way to justify an abortion. It is what it is, and depending on what people believe, will depend on if it is right for them or not. I had an abortion and in my attempt to justify my reasons for having one, I came to the conclusion that it is what it is, and that I needed more help than I could give myself. You can't justify any sin, and if you are trying to justify it, you already know that it was wrong, and are only trying to make yourself feel better!!

We shouldn't let the politician decide on abortion rights and laws. This is an issue for the people to decide, not Representatives that only want to secure the political future. It is not my decision if it is right or wrong. Ultimately it up to the mother.

Murder is murder, regardless of the age. A baby in the womb has a heartbeat and brainwaves, the determining factor for life. abscence of these indicate death. If heart beat & brain waves are present, it is a living being.

Abortion is only valid if the life of the mother and/or child are threatened due to medical reasons as certified by doctors.

abortion is justified by those who are to selfish to be parents and accept responsibility.

Its so sick here in the USA I see girls all the time who practically use it as a form of birth control.

Life starts at conception and these babies have civil rights and it is a crime for our government to not protect them from the monsters who kill them

I believe that abortion is a necessary evil. Whether it's legal or not, women will still get them. The only difference it will make is women getting them done in clean hospitals or clinics with trained, liscensed doctors rather than in filthy back-alley offices by untrained, unliscensed "doctors."

And don't even try and refute that. That's what was happening back when abortions used to be illegal, and it *will* happen again if abortions are made illegal.
