Yea, I heard Roponngii is REALLY CROWDED like shoulder to shoulder! I don't think I wanna stay in a little club for a long time anyways.

I found out that I need a female japanese resident to go with foreigners to clubs/bars in Shibuya due to foreign men's behavior. I'm going to visit my boyfriend who's stationed at Yokota and he doesn't have any japanese friends, nor do his friends on base. :(

Im sad!!!

Roppongi and Shibuya would be your best bet for music and people. There are loads of clubs celebrating New Years so go club hopping. Also check the free magazines of Tokyo Notice Board and Metropolis - available at Tower & HMV - for drink specials and the like.

Lots of bars will be open as people like to have a drink before and after they make their first visit to shrine of the year after midnight. Find a bar handy to a shrine so you can make your shrine visit, then head back for some more sake. You should be able to find a good spot in Harajuku and head over to Meiji shrine. Be sure to fill your pockets with self-warming sake!

yeah but if you go to Roppongi or Shibuya for new years, bring lots of extra money and be prepared to be crammed into a small club with several 100's of people. I was in Roppongi last year for new years, and It was so crowded that we sent most of the time outside. It is crazy on new years.

this is what i did last new years eve in osaka. you may want to too!
i went to the Universal Studios Osaka Countdown Party 2006-7 on new years eve and that was a blast!
i bought tickets online from USJ website.
i entered the grounds at about 8pm and went around the attractions and did some shopping cuz of the special items they have for new year.
then, at about 8-10pm, they have lots of parades going around! the entrance people will give u a map and guide for the night. and all u do is to follow the planned route! really magical and fun.
then, at about 10.30pm, we all went to the main arena lakeside to picnic and wait for the main show at about 1130pm! the show was great with fireworks! and the crowd was absolutely in tune! :)
romantic if u're going with ur partner, fun if u have children, cool and partying if you're going with lots of friends!

the new year party ticket will allow u to all these plus a 2nd day admission on new years day itself. USJ is also operating through the new year eve night! :)
also, u'll get a complimentary souvenir from the party at the entrance! mine was a flashy discotheque light torch with "USJ Countdown 2007!" last year!

do remember to bring good wool blankets and mats, if not, mini chairs to picnic cuz it gets really freezy with the winds.
there will be lots of people (since u dont mind people), so do get to the arena slightly early to get a good spot before all that toilet breaks happen! :)
dont drive, but just take the public transport. its 24 hours of train service in osaka! the train station is just beside the amusement park. so dont worry.
just make sure u go with appropriate warm clothings, picnic materials, snacks, shopping bags! :)
