It is possible to OD on vitamins. if youre taking a prenatal vitamin it will contain both folic acid and calcium. so you wouldnt need an extra calcium. as for the folic acid your babys neural tube develops early in pregnancy. Ask your doctor about these things. Good luck

I would assume folic acid and calcium would be safe but if you are taking a prenatal it could give your baby too much! Some things that are good for your baby can be fatal in excessive amounts, You should call your doctors office and talk to a nurse. It does not require a visit as they should be able to answer this question over the phone. When you are pregnant no question is a dumb question.

Both these supplements are available without prescription and very important to be taking while pregnant. Don't over do the doses, however. Take the recommend daily amount and you'll be fine. But it would be wise to tell your doctor what you're taking. Folic Acid is very important for preventing birth defects and of course calcium grows strong bones in both you and baby, so I'm sure your doc would recommend you take them if you weren't already. You should also take a good multi-vitamin.

You should be taking a prenatal, which is available at all major stores. CVS, Walmart, etc.

Prenatal with amounts around these.
Only one a day, you can OD on certain vitamins, such as Vitamin A.

17 mg of niacinamide
2.2 mcg of vitamin B-12

Take absolutely NOTHING without your dr's consent.
I can't remember the details, but I did read an newspaper article a few months ago, which states too much folic acid was not good for you. My dr says too much folic acid can't hurt you.
PLEASE call your dr and check.

folic acid and calcium are both good dietary supplements for pregnant women if taken in moderation, but why don't you see your GP anyway?

You should clear any and all medicines or vitamins with your doctor first. Even though both are good while being pregnant, maybe your doctor think something else is better. So talk it up with your doctor. Better safe than sorry my ma always said.

I don't think you need a doctor's prescription if you can buy them both at the store. Your doctor may recommend more vitamins too. It's a good idea to discuss it with her/him.
