Some people believe gay people are born that way. Let's say in the near future a "gay gene" is discovered, and a test is developed that can determine whether a fetus will be born gay.

Would you support a mother's decison to abort that child because it would be gay?

Hi Cat Sneeze - No, I'm not religious at all. My question was geared to see how two liberal core issues of abortion and gay rights would be resolved should they ever come into conflict.

Danika - could you expand on your reasoning. It's OK to abort a child because it's inconvenient, but not because it's gay?

Man, but I've hit a nerve. OK, for the record - I am conservative, but not religious. I believe abortion is morally wrong as it is taking a human life because the unborn baby will be too much of an inconvenience to the parents. I also believe homosexuality is not a choice. I didn't choose to be sexually attracted to the opposite sex. I just was. I have nothing against someone being gay, and no I would not support aborting a baby who would be born gay.

Well now that I'm safe, I'm pro choice.
To your question, no I wouldn't support that. There's nothing wrong with gay people.

What the hell are you talking about???? Your MALE. You'll never have to walk into a clinic alone and scared. You'll never lay down on a cold table and know your about to abort your fetus.
Abortions were legalized because to many women and girls were dieing of back alley abortions. If abortions are made illegal, women and girls will once again die from back alley abortions. If you can honestly say, it would serve them right, then your an even bigger monster.
Because of all the anti abortion laws and regulations being passed, women and girls are once again dieing of back alley abortions. How many mothers need to lose their children???
Your question's retarded. There's no way to know whether your giving birth to the next president or the next serial killer. It makes no sense.

What I find extremely interesting is the fact that proponents of abortion can be seen resisting the notion that they are playing God when choosing an abortion, but in their next breath aver that they know fetuses do not have a soul until they take their first breath.

I, am a Republican and of course, know abortion is wrong. However, I support a woman's right to make that choice due to my familiarity with the problems of severe abuse that these babies often fall prey to.

Also, I do not believe that this nation at this time, is going to overturn Roe vs. Wade. I support Rudy for this reason. He is the only candidate that I have ever seen want to actively support and promote the only viable alternative to abortion for these women. That being adoption.

I believe he sincerely cares about this issue and have great hopes of looking forward to a time when the stigma behind the adoption issue is removed for women across this country.

How wonderful it would be to save some of those babies and place them in loving homes with appropriate parents.

I get excited just thinking about it!

I'm very, very pro-choice. But I also believe that a person's lifestyle shouldn't be held against them. If a person is gay, it's their individuality. I don't think that anyone should have the right to choose if they should live or die. I believe that the only reason an abortion should take place is if the mother is going to end up emotionally or physically harmed. If that's the case, and we are allowed to abort simply because you can determine the sexual orientation, then some wacko president would come along and decide that they all have to be killed.

I support a woman's right to choose but I would not personally counsel someone to abort just because a fetus had the gay gene any more than I would counsel someone to abort based on gender. However, the bottom line is that is not a choice I or anyone else has a right to make for another woman/couple.

I wish they would discover the gay gene soon---and I believe they will---so that the conservatives would have to face up the the fact that they are oppressing a whole group of people that God created that way....on purpose.

I support choice because I don't consider a little embryo or early fetus to be a human being yet. She can get an abortion for whatever reason or no reason at all since it's nobody's business.
What if that test determined that the gay gene was passed on by the father's sperm, and that any male offspring would likely be gay. Would conservatives support mandatory vasectomies for them?

First of all there's nothing wrong with gay people... although i think it's a choice instead of genetics. To answer the question I guess it depends how soon they could target this "gay gene". I am pro choice, but only when the abortion occurs within the first month or so. When a pregnancy gets into the later stages of development abortion starts to lean toward murder instead of a contraceptive.

No, I wouldn't. Being gay isn't a handicap and it isn't a disease. The very fact that you asked this question proves to me that you think it is. I wonder if there's a way to tell if your unborn child will be an unthinking conservative homophobe? Because had I known your mother, I not only would have consented to her aborting you, I'd have performed it myself!

Too bad we can't eliminate the gene for people who make assumptions. Not all Republicans are gay haters. I'm a republican and two of my good friends are gay. Not all dems are radical tree huggers, so why do you assume all conservatives are gay hating religious freaks?
As for the actual question...it's not a reason for abortion. Abortion is for cases of rape or if the baby's life would be extremely difficult due to a debilitating disease. It's not a form of birth control, but there are people who abuse the government provided free abortions and treat it like birth control. If you think being gay is a reason for abortion, then clearly you are ignorant. Go home and drink some kool-aid.

Why are you asking liberals? You should be asking homophobes and anti-gay conservatives what they would do...

btw - I think it's a mix of the two. Having experience knowing many gay people in my life, I believe some people are more genetically imposed to that orientation, but I also believe many people do choose as well. It's not all one or the other, there is truth to both sides.

It is unbelievable that you could ask a hypothetical question like this, clearly indicate the hypocrisy you are trying to dispel, and get so many hateful responses. It is as though you are advocating action instead of posing a question.

It seems libs do not understand the difference.
