The bike is my buddies and i am hoping to buy it from him for my boyfrind for christmas. The peice where you put the key in to sart was ripped off, so we put the red and black wires on a toggle* switch. sorry for the spelling* Are those the only wires needed on the switch? there are other loose wires. the lights turn on and the engine tries to turn over, but i just wont crank! any help or suggestions would be helpful, thanx.

I would suggest getting a new ignition switch.
It is possible you have power to the lights and starter ,but not the coil.
Something else you have to ask yourself, aside from the battery being low, if the bike has not been started in a long time ( many months or even years) ,gasoline evaporating in the carb, fuel line and tank will cause a resin like build up and clog the fuel system.
Is it possible this is the case with this 450?

My memory keeps yelling "brown wire", but it was years ago.
I do remember that there are two that need to be connected to the red.
Here's how I found it before:
If you can locate either an owner's manual or a repair manual, there will be a drawing in the back that shows the ignition switch wiring. It will say which ones are connected for each position. Off, Ignition, and Accessory.

OK from the ignition barrel there should be a black and white wire cut the wire and try to start it. don't worry about the other wires just cut the black and white wire from the ignition barrel.
this should solve the problem I'm not 100% sure but it works on most honda's.

Hiya
Take the barrel of and take it to a lock smiths and he/she willl cut u a new key(only a few pounds) I think you need all the wires conected for it to work
