I think if the Sox come around to Ellsbury and Lester, thats the deal that would get it done.
Right now, I personally like the Yankee deal...an above average CF'er and a ready for rotation SP. However, if the Yanks decide to add Ian Kennedy I think that would be a done deal.
As much as I would like to see Ellsbury in a Twins uniform, they need to get a SP thats ready for the rotation too.

Big D, how did you miss this from mlb.com
"The latest wrinkle is that the Red Sox might now be willing to include top center-field prospect Jacoby Ellsbury in their offer to Minnesota as a response to the Yankees recently putting stud pitching prospect Phil Hughes in their package.
ESPN.com -- citing sources -- reported Sunday that Boston had backed off its refusal to include Ellsbury. But if Ellsbury is to be in the deal, the Red Sox will pull back left-handed starter Jon Lester. "
Now, let's take a look at this deal. Let's see what the Yanks have to offer.
Hughes: 5-3, 72.7 IP, 58 K, 4.46 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 100 ERA+ (1 season)
13-2, 275 IP, 311 K, 2.09 ERA, 0.86 WHIP (4 seasons)
Cabrera: .275/.340/.388, 90 OPS+ (over 3 seasons)
Plus one prospect TBD
Ellsbury: .353/.394/.509, 131 OPS+ (this season)
.314/.390/.426 (3 seasons in minors)
Lowrie: .291/.386/.448 (3 seasons in minors)
And mlb.com reports that the Twinkies could get either Justin Masterson or Michael Bowden.
Masterson: 12-8, 185.2 IP, 148 K, 3.73 ERA, 1.15 WHIP (2 seasons)
Bowden: 11-6, 261.2 IP, 259 K, 3.44 ERA, 1.23 WHIP (3 seasons)
Now that we've laid that out, we need to see if the Twins would like to add pitching or hitting to their team. If pitching is the answer, then the Yankees have the better offer because Hughes is indeed much better than the two prospects Boston's offering. If hitting is the answer, then Boston has the better deal because the Melk Man's not going to cut it for the already depleted Minnesota offense. If I were Minnesota, I'd go for the offense upgrade, because we're seeing that power's the only way to bust through the American League, so Santana would be a Red Sox.

Without a doubt the Yankees are offering a more solid deal. If the Sox were to throw in Lester or Bucholtz with Ellsbury than the Sox have the better deal.

People have heard of Hughes and Cabrera. So I am going to go with the Red Sox deal. Not because I am a fan of the Red Sox or hate the Yankees.
I am picking it because of the trade the Twins made with the Giants. The got rid of AJ Pierzinsky (or however the heck you spell his name) and they got Boof Bonser, Francisco Liriano, and Joe Nathan. Nathan was a good pitcher but wasn't as high ranked and well known back then. Liriano and Bonser were prospects that many did not know about. Now they will both probably be in the rotation next year.
The Twins have good scouts and no matter which of these trades goes down (if they do) the Twins will definitely be winners. Santana is going to cost teams prospects and then they will have to sign him to a contract extension of about $25 million a year.
**EDIT**
Would Santana be willing to shave his trademark goatee for the Yankees?

I have to go with the Yanks deal, and not just because I'm a Yanks fan. I don't want to debate the issue much other than to say that Melky has proven what a value he is, and Philip Hughes could go to any of the crappier teams and be a #1/#2 starter with his 95+ mph fastball.
If I were the Twins, I wouldn't kick the Boston deal to the curb. But I think they did that deliberately because they wanted Boston out of the mix and are already assuming Santana to the Yankees.

i could contend that Ramos is a "substantial league waiting individual." He replaced into called up in the previous this 12 months whilst the Twins temporarily went with 3 catchers. In his first 2 video games, he have been given 7 hits. He needs a touch paintings with hitting breaking balls, nonetheless. As a Twins fan, this feels like a win-win deal to me, yet i think of the Mariners might want a glass out fo the deal. The Twins have some youthful pitchers on their team (Nick Blackburn, Kevin Slowey and Scott Baker) yet I doubt they had commerce considered one of those adult adult males in the event that they had to commerce Hicks, too.

I agree the yankees sounds better, Ellsbury and Lowrie don't have as much experience, although Ellsbury was pretty great for the red sox, but I'm honestly hoping he won't end up leaving the red sox b/c he's one of my favorites.

honestly i think the twins would want the yankees offer rite now. they r offering 85% of wat the twins want. all they need to do is throw in kennedy and the deal is done. however, the yankees seem not willing enough to change the offer given the monday night deadline, so if i was theo, i would put that offer on the table, wait to when the yankees officially announce they r out of the trade then offer lester and crisp again. i really dont wanna see ellsbury go if that happens i will be really upset he is a fan favorite so it would be stupid on theos behave

I would agree that the Yankees offer is the best on the table, at this time, for the Twins.
